The JCI Creed

The statement of values recited at JCI meetings and events around the world.

We believe:

  • That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;
  • That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;
  • That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;
  • That government should be of laws rather than of men;
  • That earth's great treasure lies in human personality;
  • And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

About the JCI Creed

The JCI Creed was written in 1946 by C. William Brownfield, a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was adopted by Junior Chamber International as its official creed and has since served as a foundational statement of the values and beliefs that guide the organization.

The Creed is recited at JCI meetings, installations, and events across all 100+ countries where JCI operates. It serves as a reminder of the shared principles that unite JCI members worldwide — a commitment to human dignity, the rule of law, free enterprise, and service to others.

For JCI Alumni, the Creed remains a touchstone. The values expressed in its six lines reflect the philosophy that shapes JCI leadership training: that individuals who commit to service and principled action create lasting positive change in their communities.
